Oh fie upon the ways of men
His fickle heart turns once again
This morning I was poetry
This evening there's no use for me
I wish that I had never shown
The things that two might when alone
When bearing more than flesh and bone
The inner self stands stark as stone
I held his heart or so he said
Although he was already wed
But so he said and so I thought
I'd let him in when I should not
For he was not mine to let in
But something told me, 'tis no sin
To give to one who wants you so
Let down your guard, girl, off you go
I followed him down gravel path
And found the courage then to laugh
When soft bare feet met sharp cold stone
I did not want to be alone
And ah, his words were warm and sweet
Which tempered salty, bloody feet
Where pain and joy were both complete
I lost my mind in vain deceit
